2nd location we visited on our 3-day Germany trip. We were only 10 minutes on the property looking for an entrance when we got caught by a guard. After a short discussion we were allowed to walk outside the buildings. We were told that we could never get into the building. Yeah right, we’ll see. After some time and a cat and mouse game with the guard we found an entrance and got in! Heilstätten OL was built in 1902 as a children’s sanatorium. They were treated for tubercolosis and other infections. The air and surroundings there would help them heal. Later on also a women’s sanatorium was built on the premises and in World War I and II it was used as a military hospital. There are also known stories about doing surgical tests on Jewish woman out of a nearby concentration camp. Hitler and his SS commandments also rested here to heal and enjoy the fresh air. After the World War the Russians used it as a hospital and later on to home the Soviet soldiers. In 1993 they left here and nobody came back in return…

Soon this location will be renovated into a fancy hotel and holiday homes.
